Wordsmiths - our creative writing class
My name is Ferris Lindsay. I am a professional tutor.
For the past three years I have been teaching young teenagers (12-14 yo) to write clearly and effectively in online lessons once a week. We call the class Wordsmiths.
The lessons have been conversational and interactive as we looked at different types of writing. We have also examined and edited the writing done by the youngsters themselves for homework. They have really appreciated having their written work looked at in detail. The aim of these sessions is to encourage care, accuracy, enjoyment and experimentation in writing.
The classes have had a maximum of 8 in them. We have typically looked at grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, paragraphing and literary devices.
The lessons last for an hour and are in 5 week blocks. They align approximately with the main school half terms. The cost of a 5 week block is £40. (This depends on the class having a minimum of four students.)
You can join us for an online lesson to see if it is suitable for your child. If you decide it’s not for your child then that lesson is at no cost.
